Throughout the rest of the 20th century Dior continued to prove its worth as a French fashion house, releasing lines of both couture and ready-to-wear consisting of clothing, shoes, bags and accessories. The first Christian Dior jacket or coat to truly shine, its tiny waist and huge, feathery lapels made it a phenomenon. One standout item from the collection was the Bar Jacket. Soon enough the waspy waistlines were en-vogue, and Christian Dior dresses were the height of style. Dior sparked a revolution in French fashion. The line-up featured pinched, tight waistlines and full skirts to create an exaggeration of the classic female silhouette - style at the time was all about free, loose skirts and shapes thanks to the influence of designers such as Coco Chanel. The collection, thanks to a glib comment made by a journalist, was dubbed “The New Look” due to its radical polarisation with the trends of the decade thus far. Christian Dior’s first-ever collection of women’s couture made its debut on 12 February 1947 at 30 Avenue Montaigne, Paris.
